Swim Team FAQs

Are you interested in having your child join the swim team this summer?

1. Who can join the Village Mill Swim Team?

Children of Village Mill Club (VMCI) members may join the swim team. Children are eligible to swim up to the age of 18 years old (even if they have just graduated from high school).

2. How long does the swim season run?

Preseason practices for all swimmers begin May 11 after school. The last regular season meet and the divisional meet are the last full week of June.

3. When does my child practice?

While DeKalb County Schools are in session, practices are every afternoon starting at 4 pm. Once school is out, we offer practices twice a day. Morning practices are conducted before the pool is open to the general membership each day. Summer afternoon practices begin at 5 pm and are conducted on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Swimmers can only attend one practice a day. See the Schedule tab for more details for times and age groups.

4. When are the swim meets?

There are 5 regular swim meets (3 home and 2 away for the 2026 season) and 1 divisional meet (at Georgia Tech). The meets begin at 5:30 pm. Meet dates for 2026 are 5/26, 6/2, 6/9, 6/16, 6/22 (note that the last meet is a Monday). Once official, the schedule will be posted on the Schedule tab.

5. My child is just starting to swim. Should we join the swim team?

Yes! Your child is most welcome to join! If your child is just beginning to learn how to swim, Junior Swim Team might be a great option! These practices include more hands-on coaching and don't involve competitive swim meets. The Regular Swim Team is for swimmers who are able to swim a full lap of the pool unassisted. If you do not yet know where to place your child, our coaches will help you and your child find the right fit for their swim level.  For more info check out the Junior Swim Team tab.

6. I can't decide if I should register my child for Junior Swim Team or Regular Swim Team. How should I decide?

Regular Swim Team is for swimmers who are able to swim a full lap of the pool unassisted. If your child can't swim a lap the length of the pool yet, then Junior Swim Team is probably the best fit. However, if the coaches feel like your child is ready, they can move your child up to the Regular Swim Team any time!

7. Because of my work schedule, my child can't attend morning practices. Can they still participate in swim team?

Yes! We have 3 afternoon practices a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Plus, the meets are on Tuesday (and one Monday) evenings at 5:30 pm. The afternoon practice option is also great for kids who miss a morning practice for camp or an appointment. Please only attend one practice a day. See the Schedule tab to learn more about our practice times.

8. My child needs a little extra help with their strokes. Is there a way to help them?

Everyone Wednesday starting in June, stroke clinics are offered from 11 am-12 pm.  Please talk to your child's coach for more information and visit the Schedules tab for details.

Most coaches will also offer private lessons. Reach out to the coach directly. You can also visit the Swim Lessons tab.
